Evaluating the Application

While official designation of "gifted" is not required for admission, in selecting students, we consider the overall academic profile, which includes the student's Teacher Recommendation Form and academic product or essay. One characteristic all students must have in common is the motivation and commitment to work hard and consistently in the Program.

It is advantageous for returning and new students to submit their applications early, preferably well before the postmark deadlines. The date an application is complete can be an important factor in determining course placement.

Generally, applications are evaluated in the order they are complete, with first preference in placement given to returning students. However, returning students are not guaranteed automatic readmission or placement in their first choice of course—they must have maintained strong academic records, and must submit their complete applications early. A student who applied in a previous year and then withdrew without completing a course will be considered a new student for admission purposes.

Former Elementary Division students who are applying to the SD are considered new applicants for admissions purposes. However, it is strongly recommended and to a student's individual advantage to submit her or his application as early as possible, preferably before the returning student deadline of Wednesday, February 17, 2010.

Applications received after the deadline will be considered only on a space-available basis. Incomplete applications are not considered.
